Cardinal George Pell, Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, said yesterday on morning television that condoms worsen the spread of HIV and AIDS, a news service reported.
The statement is in support of Pope Benedict’s controversial claim blaming the spread of AIDS to the use of condoms.
The news report said that Cardinal Pell compared the different incidence rates of AIDS in Catholic and non-Catholic countries in Asia to demonstrate that spirituality is needed, and not condoms.
He cited the case of the Philippines with much lower incidence of AIDS than Thailand.
Cardinal Pell was quoted saying: “If you look at the Philippines you’ll see the incidence of AIDS is much lower than it is in Thailand, which is awash with condoms. There are condoms everywhere and the rate of infection is enormous.”
It would be interesting to find out your reaction to Cardinal Pell’s comments.

I wished that Cardinal Pell was misquoted because his comments undermine the efforts of governments in preventing the spread of AIDS.

All – Thanks for participating in our poll.
Spiritual and social awareness is we need. Even without condoms, AIDS won’t be spreading if we are faithful to our partner.
