In case you haven’t heard, you can now find the right visa type you can apply for using the a wizard-driven FAQ at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.

part screenshot of DIAC Visa Wizard pageDepending on your answers, the wizard-driven FAQ called “Visa Wizard” can give you an indication whether there is a visa type which you are qualified to apply for and the steps with basic information including application forms on how to proceed with your visa application.

I gave it a spin, and I quite like it. It is user-friendly and interactive with rich information.

The initial five questions to be answered are: why you want an Australian visa, country of nationality of your passport, where you expect to be when you apply for a visa, your date of birth and how long you intend to stay in Australia.

For each of the questions, there are a number of selectable answers in drop-down format.

If you pass the initial screening, then another set of questions are presented to you — on the same page. Otherwise, you will be directed to a new page informing you that there are no available Australian visa types based on your answers.

With the Visa Wizard, you can immediately determine if you meet the requirements. That really saves you a lot of time, and money, checking with the Immigration office in your locality or with your migration agent ~ if all you wanted is to find out if you qualify.

The Visa Wizard is a very useful tool. It’s just like having an “online advisor.” Even if, based on your own answers, you didn’t quality for any Australian visa, at least you already had the advantage of knowing in advance what you need to prepare in order to qualify for the right Australian visa.

Note: I like to emphasize the legal information found in the DIAC website: “The Visa Wizard is not a substitute for your own judgment, own enquiries and/or independent advice.”

You can access the Visa Wizard at the DIAC’s website.

Next time you visit us, why not share your impressions of DIAC’s visa wizard?

Ruth – Have you tried the Visa Wizard at the DIAC website? I suggest you try it. Some of our friends have tried the Visa Wizard and found it very informative. It also requires information which only the visa applicant can supply.
