Have you ever wondered how much opportunity is lost each time you send an email without mentioning about your works? Or, perhaps your site?
If you are sending 10 emails a day, which is not uncommon these days, to different people, you have at least 10 chances to promote your works or your site. I said “at least” because when your emails are forwarded to others without your name being scrubbed, that’s an additional exposure you receive ~ for free.
No, you don’t have to blatantly promote your works or your site as part of your messages. Other people including your friends might even find that practice not acceptable. All you need to do is place a line or two about your works with your works or site’s URL as part of your digital signature.
For example, I place the following at the bottom of my outgoing email as my digital signature:
My blog is… a matter of sharing
www.RomeoCayabyab.com
It is really that simple as you can see.
But if you’re using an email account issued by your employer, that is not advisable. It is not appropriate.
What you can do is to sign up for a webmail account so you have no worries breaching your company rules.
Here are the steps for Gmail and Yahoo webmail users:
Gmail – Simply click on Settings to open the Signature box where you can enter your address and other promotion lines
Yahoo – Click Options, select Mail Options, Signature to open the Signature box
What if your works URL are long? Or, perhaps your pages or site are hosted somewhere else?
We will take that up next. Meantime, let me know what you think?
I agree. This is one of those things we take for granted. But may I ask: Why are there some people who use their ISP issued email address? Their ISP should be paying them for promoting the ISP service?
