New Yahoo email spams on the rise?

Sometime last June I wrote a post, “When your email account is compromised, do you leave your friends out in the cold?”, which explains the steps on what to do if you’re having issues with your email account.

It’s about time to re-visit that post.

Over the last few days, I noticed unusual messages from my friends and associates hitting my mailbox.

The messages are just one-liners displaying a link to a webpage. The Subject line is either “Hello”, “Hi”, “Hey” or “Re”.

Surprisingly, these were not detected by my mailbox filter. In fact they were even considered “Important mainly because of the people in the conversation”. They were also “signed by” by, the sending provider.

If you are receiving similar messages, I suggest that you don’t touch that link at all. Trash the message. I don’t know what is in there. But it is safe to simply delete the message.

Thanks for the reminder and tips Romy. We really can’t be complacent these days with regards to spams and vexatious emails.
